Pysanka Workshop in Our Parish

After the Sunday Divine Liturgy, a warm and inspiring gathering took place in our parish – a workshop dedicated to the ancient Ukrainian tradition of pysankarstvo (pysanka-making).

Parishioners of all ages came together to learn, create, and share in this beautiful cultural heritage. For some participants, it was their very first experience decorating pysanky, making the occasion especially joyful and memorable.

A pysanka is not simply an Easter decoration, but a deeply symbolic art form rooted in Ukrainian history and faith. Each ornament and colour carries meaning – representing life, hope, protection, and renewal. Traditional symbols often include the sun (life and eternity), plants and flowers (growth and rebirth), and geometric patterns symbolising harmony and order. Colours also hold special significance: red represents love and joy, yellow symbolises light and harvest, black reflects eternity and remembrance, while green stands for spring and new life. Together, these elements create not only a beautiful design, but also convey a message of faith, blessing, and hope.

Under the guidance of experienced participants, everyone had the opportunity to try traditional techniques, using wax and dyes to create unique and meaningful designs. The atmosphere was filled with creativity, conversation, and a strong sense of unity.

This workshop became not only a creative activity, but also a meaningful moment of connection – with our traditions and with one another.

We sincerely thank everyone who took part in this gathering for their openness, enthusiasm, and warm spirit. May these beautiful creations bring joy, blessing, and hope to all.
