Our Parish
The Founding of the Parish
The Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of the Holy Trinity in Brisbane was founded on 22 June 2025 with the blessing of Metropolitan Antony Shcherba, Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the Diaspora (Ecumenical Patriarchate). From its beginning, the parish has served Ukrainians of different generations – both those born in Australia and those who arrived during various waves of immigration. Divine services are currently celebrated at St Fabian’s Church.
The parish is led by its rector, Fr. Yuriy Fediv, who came from Lviv, Ukraine. Through the celebration of the Divine Liturgy, the administration of the Holy Mysteries, pastoral care, and prayer, he guides the faithful in the life of the Church and in the preservation of the Orthodox faith and Ukrainian spiritual heritage.

The Patronal Icon of the Holy Trinity
The icon of the Holy Trinity was written by a Lviv iconographer specifically for o parish. It holds a special place in the spiritual life of our community and previen as a center of prayer in our church.
The image of the Holy Trinity reveals the mystery of the one God in three Persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Through this sacred icon, the Church reminds us of our calling to live in love, unity, and peace, remaining faithful to the Orthodox faith and Holy Tradition.
Parish Life and Ministry
The parish provides preparation for the Holy Mysteries of Baptism, Chrismation, Confession, and Marriage, and also engages in spiritual and educational activities for both children and adults.
Parish life is enriched by the active work of the Sisterhood, Brotherhood, and the Parish Choir. Following the Divine Liturgy, the faithful are invited to remain for fellowship and shared conversation. Each month, parishioners also receive Uspenska Vezha, the oldest religious publication in Ukraine, which has been published continuously since March 1991.
The parish belongs to the Australian–New Zealand Eparchy of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church in the Diaspora (Ecumenical Patriarchate) and remains under the spiritual guidance of Metropolitan Antony Shcherba.
Historical Roots in Brisbane
The Ukrainian Orthodox presence in Brisbane has deep historical roots. It dates back to 4 March 1950, when the first parish of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church was established. Early services were celebrated in a church building in the Woolloongabba area under the pastoral care of Fr. Serhii Shumskyi. In 1972, the community built the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos, which served as a center of worship until 1993.
Today, the Parish of the Holy Trinity continues this legacy, offering a place of prayer and worship for all who seek to grow in faith.
